Finally the day arrived when we could all meet once more! Here we were at the Concertgebouw Brugge for the 14th International Congress of the IAAS. Our hosts from the Belgian and Dutch day surgery societies (BAAS and NVDK) Professor Marc Coppens and Dr Xavier Falieres were introduced with trumpeters.
Then came a talk from one of our founding fathers. Claude de Lathouwer was our first President and presented about the beginning of the IAAS.
The Nicoll Lecture was then delivered by Dr Jan Eshuis. An excellent talk on the title Ambulatory Anaesthesia and Surgery before(and after) Nicoll: by fits and starts.
The trumpeters were out again for Bobby Jean Sweitzer, President of SAMBA who talked to the title The Ambulatory Anaesthesiologist dances the SAMBA.
